so we all have those things, little things, that you think about from time to time and in that three second span of you thinking about that subject, you become real passionate/moved/emotional. and here are a couple of mine.

1. OJ Simpson is so guilty (and I really want to read that book that "If I did it")
2. Pete Rose belongs in the Baseball hall of fame like woah
3. Jean Benet Ramsey's parents totally killed their daughter.
4. We fucked the Native Americans over big time. pisses me off sometimes.
5. Why the heck didn't they fix the o-rings on the Challenger space shuttle?
6. Columbus Day should not be an f'ing holiday. He didn't do shit. He's a stinkin' bum.

those are just a few, I could think of more, but I'm so f'ing tired I can't think right now. good night. I love you all. Go Red Sox.

Sincerely,
Matthew Turner

Blah blah blah, it's the end of the year and people are doing the "blank best blanks of (insert current year)". and last year I fell into that trap though I don't quite remember what it was. anyway, this year I'm going to do the "whatever-number-comes-to-my-head best things of this year list type thing"

#12.2- Frankenmuth trip sometime in January.

fun times were had by all, time spent mostly around the billiard table or the ping-pong table and we also played putt-putt and did karaoke. It was snowing and there's a picture somewhere on my computer of Paul and I standing at the window with the snow in front of us.

#11.2- Belly Ache Candy Shoppe

seriously go to bellyachecandyshoppe.com and check out there great selection of rare candy goodness. I personally know the co-owner and can tell you he's a good guy. Though some of you may never meet him, know that he's a good guy. and he's pretty good with a bass in his hand.

#10.2- The country of Australia

it all started with that commercial with that cute girl walking on the beach asking "where the bloody hell are you?" in a very sexy australian accent. then I moved on to a book by Bill Bryson who is quite a funny guy about his stay "in a sunburned country." I hope to visit one day.

#9.2- Concerts

It all started with my own karaoke concert in Frankenmuth and then it was the Pitchfork Music Festival which featured Spoon and even though it was hotter than Hell, hearing them about 15 feet from me made it all bearable. Then a little while later was the Decemberists with Paul and James and a couple days later, I went to Scotty's (he's the candy man) show at the magic bag. it was all quite entertaining but next year trumps all of these because I get to see SUFJAN. Yes Sufjan.

#8.2- the sport of golf

I don't even want to know how much money I poured into the relaxing yet infinitely frustrating game of golf this year, but I can tell you it was all worth it. It started with a quick visit to the driving range with Stank on his birthday (21st day of May) and it just took off from there. for a few weeks in the early summer, it was a routine to get up early on Thursday, get together with Stank, Melissa, and Sluss and go to Hampton. Visits to other golf courses were made and a couple times it was just me and someone else. I got my first birdie this year in the presence of some guy, I forget his name, but he was the coolest guy ever. Stank was there too, so maybe he remembers his name. that was a great day. so yeah, great year for golf.

#7.2- trips with my friends

I made a couple trips to chicago to see the young ms. Gayle Shier with Paul Thomas and the aforementioned trip to Frankenmuth, then there was the retreat with Paul and Keef with intervarsity to Chapter Focus Week.(northern michigan is so beautiful) and then there was camping with Stank Melissa and Amy and then there was Canada shortly after my 19th birthday and the various trips to Meijer. I'll include cruise nights, steak and shake, and Heroes nights in here too.

#6.2- meeting Steve Yzerman

even if it was for like 45 seconds and even if I was only ringing him up for some measly book and even if I couldn't ask him for an autograph because I wanted be professional cause I'm sweet like that and even though he didn't have a borders rewards card causing my percentages to drop .00001% and even though he only said about three words to me(he's a quiet guy anyway) and even though I spent the next day and a half thinking of all the things I could've said to let him know how awesome he was and how big an honor it was meeting him...I forget where I was going with this, but it was awesome and just for the record he bought the same book I bought for my step-mom. He was the best captain to ever wear the "C". Ever. He was the epitome of captain-ness.

#5.2- Work

since I took the year off from school, I've done nothing but work, and have enjoyed it about 92.625% of the time. I've met some real cool people at Borders and love everyone I work with at A&W and in November I moved to IPT at borders which was a goal of mine since I started, so yeah. And I'll also put in here the First Annual Dub Bowl which was amazing despite the smaller-than-expected turn out.

#4.2- Church

It's fun seeing how God works in your life. I had a great time this year at Chapter Focus Week, IV barbecues and Genesis and that thing at Paul's church and also stuff at Kennsington. also in the last 3 days I've run into 8 people from my old church in Royal Oak.

#3.2- Movies

There are so many good ones from this year, such as Little Miss Sunshine, V for Vendetta, Apocalypto, Lady in the Water, Clerks II which I haven't seen yet, but know I'll love it, and countless others that I can't remember or have yet to see. Borat was good too.

#2.2- The Detroit Tigers

please see my last entry for my view on the Tigers Season and I would also like to include how amazing the Pennant clinching game was and the fact that I got to go to it with Paul and my father made it even better. and then there were the games that I went to with Adam See, and Sluss.

#1.2- My friends

may sound lame, but I love my friends more than anything and I seriously believe that I have the best friends anyone could ask for. even the ones that I suck at keeping in contact with like shannon and steve and natalie and grant I love you all and thanks for making this year fun.

honorable mention and should be on the list but I didn't know where to put it: the tv show The Office

so yeah that's that, and I would like to take this moment to say hi to Mr. Ian Walters. I miss you. Happy New Year to you all. I love you and God bless

Ok, so yesterday on Jim Rome is Burning, an ESPN tv show, Jim Rome asked if the twelve year wait to get to the world series was worth it, seeing as how we had made so many errors in the world series and we couldn't get our offense together, pretty much assuring the Cardinals a victory in the series. And all I have to say is: Fuck yes.

Come on, we went twelve years being the laughing stock of the major leagues, almost broke a record for most losses in a season and pretty much made a home in the cellar of the american league standings. And then one magical year, after hiring Jim Leyland as our manager we more or less eased our way into the World Series like we belonged there. It's funny how it took one man, who barely ever smiled, to make the most of the talent that we've really had all along, but never seemed to click.

When the Tigers had made the playoffs, and everyone said that we wouldn't get past the yankees, I thought that the fact that we had even made the playoffs was good enough. I mean, Detroit finally cared about their baseball team. Well, it's not that we didn't care before, it's just that we finally had a reason to be excited. Throughout the playoffs, Tigers merchandise sales flew past the Yankees and into the number two spot behind the Mets. Even outside the great state of Michigan, people were buying whatever Tigers stuff they could get their hands on. And in Michigan you couldn't go anywhere without seeing someone wearing a Tigers hat or sweatshirt or even a car with a Tigers decal on its window. And as they had done so in merchandise sales, the Tigers walked right over the Yankees and into a chance to snatch the American League pennant. At that point, I again thought that even if we lost, we should be proud of our Tigers. And then in game 4 of the ALCS in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, Detroit, and even the world, got to see just how magical this season has been. And although we couldn't muster up enough offense in the World Series to truly cap off the biggest turn-around in Major League history, Detroit had another team to be excited about. Summer will no longer be the season between Red Wing hockey and Deeeetroit Basketball (fuck the Lions), it'll be time to rally around our beloved Tigers.

so it's almost November which means NATIONAL NOVEL WRITING MONTH. I never finished last year's story, but I have a great idea for this year and am really excited to get started. it's a lot of words, but it's just as much fun, and I encourage all of you who have wanted to write a story, or even a biography for that matter to check out www.nanowrimo.com.

well, that's about it. I love you all.

sincerely,
Matthew Alfred Turner

so a lot has happened since my last entry. my parents have been gone for a week now and they don't get home until sunday and most kids would have a party every night that their parents are gone but I'm better than that and I fill my time with work and watching the show Heroes on NBC on Monday nights at 9 pm EST. GREAT SHOW.

So I got a haircut Monday and people at work notice and say the casual "oh you got a haircut" and even better yet actually ask you "did you get a haircut?" when it's totally obvious that you did and even helen keller could notice but God bless them for noticing I guess. but the best happened today. a guy named Mike who is the only customer to actually swear at me gave me the weirdest look today when he got his coffee since he didn't come in yesterday it was pretty funny. also there's this schizophrenic lady named Paula that comes in every once in a while and she noticed and told me that it looked nice and that I looked even younger than I did before. of all people she'd be the last person I'd expect to notice my haircut. not that I really care about my haircut, it's just funny how some people react to such things.

if you are old enough to vote November 7th I believe it is, and you get to the governor part, write me in because Granholm and and DeVos are so busy bashing each other, they'll never see me coming.

the tigers are in the playoffs and everyone is pretty quick to write them off seeing as how they're going up against the stupid yankees. I say stupid even though I think Jeter's pretty cool and felt bad for A Rod during his little slump. but I still hate them because I am a Red Sox fan. anyway, I think the Tigers have a chance to pull this out. I mean, they're here for a reason and even though they couldn't win one lousy game out of the last five to get the division, they had one hell of season and they deserve to be where they are right now. I do believe that it'd be remarkable for the tigers to beat the yankees but there's still a good chance that they can and will.

I don't know what day it was but my mom called me because we were supposed to get together at some point but I've been working a lot. anyway, we were just talking like normal and out of nowhere, she asked me if I was depressed and it's weird because I hadn't said or done anything that would cause her to ask such a question, but all last week I wasn't too happy about my life and had some scary thoughts running through my head. but I'm feeling better about things now I guess.

so if all goes as planned next year I'll get to go to Disney World with Murray and San Diego for a family reunion type thing both of which would be very exciting. It's nice to have things to look forward to.

I think it was last month, TIME magazine had an article entitled "Does God want you to be rich?" and I was going to write a long paragraph about what I thought about the connections between faith and money but I'll save it for some other time.

Go San Diego Chargers.

I love you all

DisneyWorld. the place that you went to so many times with your family during the summer of your elementary school years. well, my family was different so needless to say, I've never experienced the most magical place on earth.

Then tonight happened and Murray and I decided we're going to Disney World in May. It's going to be magical, complete with a sensitive film on how babies are made. we are also going to go clubbing and do everything there is to do down there. I mean we're going to do it ALL the hotel we looked at and will most likely stay at is amazing. the bathrooms are awesome. just planning and thinking about the trip made us both Disney-gasm a little bit. and somewhere in the middle was a trip to applebees for dessert. quite possibly the best night ever.

life is good

I love you all

I begin this entry with the fact that I fell down the stairs tonight. Nothing serious but it's the first time I'd fallen down stairs since the Mayan ruins a few years ago. It was actually quite fun looking back on it. so yeah. story number one

yesterday was fun. woke up, bought Madden. then went golfing. it was fun, beautiful course, but not my best day of golfing. I like to blame it on the fact that I had never golfed there and Jake and Jake's dad made me nervous. then played some madden and went to work.

when I finally went to sleep, I had some weird dreams. It all started in this house type place where a bunch of people were standing along the walls of this big room. It was kinda dark and I was walking around the room and looked down and saw a human head sitting atop an expensive vase like thing. Then the girl that owned it started doing this dance and picked the head up and told everyone how she had sacrificed her child and sent it to hell. she said that about five times and continued to dance. so I left after that and started walking somewhere with my friends. I then started feeling a little woozy and light-headed. I reached my hand down to my hip and felt some moisture. Turned out to be blood. so apparently, when that girl was dancing and stuff, she managed to poke me in the hip with something causing me to bleed. and the bleeding wouldn't stop so I was bleeding to death from the hip. it wasn't a quick flow of blood, it was just little drops here and there, but it wouldn't stop. so we kept walking and ended up at this ice arena and we started talking to this guy who ended up being David Coulier from full house. he was talking about how he was wayne gretzky's cousin and we asked him how much money he made and he got mad at us because he doesn't like talking about money because he feels bad not making as much as gretzky. so we left to find him some money. we ended up at my grandparent's house and asked them for some money. which just led to my grandma showing me her nickel collection which was just a bunch of rolls of nickels. so we went back to the ice arena, me still bleeding from the hip, to tell uncle joey that we couldn't find any money. while we were doing that, I was thinking of ways to put some pressure on my hip to stop the bleeding. the method that made the most sense to me at the time was to string a bunch of credit cards together and tie them really tightly around my waist. I don't know if I ended up doing that or not. so we told coulier that we didn't have any money and started walking away when some cops came in looking for us. they wanted to ask us about that chick who killed her kid. we told them what we knew, that she had sacrificed it and it was going to hell, etc. etc. but the conversation grew into the cops accusing us of killing the kid. we all got mad because we hadn't done anything so stank and gersky got up on this pedestal thing and called our group of friends "the crew" and told us not to be mad and reminded us that we hadn't done anything and that we were good. and then just like that the cops disappeared and we were in some field out in the middle of nowhere (so like wyoming or something).

and then I woke up and was late for work. <3

so yeah. that's about it.
